These Things Shall Never Die
By Charles Dickens
I have been thinking about the things that will never die. The pure, the bright, the beautiful,
That have a deathless part;
The voiceless breath of praise,
The unspoken love of heart;
The memory of a face seen in a dream,
The lingering echo of a song we've heard,
The scent of flowers that once made our hearts gleam,
In the depth of some divine chord;
The faith that looks up to the stars above,
The hope that springs eternal from the breast,
The soul's calm sense of a righteous cause,
And the burning passion for truth expressed;
The tears that well up from a sorrow shared,
The smile that blooms in another's joy,
The helping hand extended, unasked and unpared,
In life's tumultuous employ;
The quiet courage that meets adversity,
The noble stand when principles are at stake,
The honest word spoken with sincerity,
When lies would easier make;
These things shall never die,
But shine like stars forever in the sky,
For they are born of God, and cannot die—
These things shall never die.
拥有不朽的部分;
心中未言的爱意;
在某个神圣心弦的深处震颤;
以及为真理燃烧的热情表达;
在生活动荡中的运用;
即便谎言或许更容易被接受;
